First to come was the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eaddition\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e of\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e one finger guard to allow the combatant to help to bring \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe sword into better balance, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eotherwise it was still a late war sword. This sword however shows some important advancements that were in play during the late 1400 early 1500's. The addition of the long sweeping quillions with two arms and a ring allowed the finger\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e to be\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e over the cross guard and greatly decreasing the danger of it being \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecompromised\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis simple step was important because it enabled the user\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eto make more controlled cuts and more importantly a more controlled thrust. It should be remembered that not ever fighter was, or could be, in full plate.
